1.

                               My View on Fake Commodities

Nowadays fake commodities have flooded almost every inch of the market. Wherever you are, whatever you do, it seems that you can hardly have fallen prey to them. In other words, it is highly probable that you have bought some of those fake goods or products of inferior quality。

Needless to say, fake commodities have already done great harm to our society. On the one hand, they will ruin the good reputation of genuine products and disturb the balance of the market. On the other hand, the prevalence of such products has hindered interpersonal relationship and resulted in the decline of public morality. As a consequence, they have wasted exhaustible resources, endangered people’s precious life and health, and in the long run eroded public trust。

Then, what should be done to do away with fake commodities? To start with, the government needs to tighten its inspection program and strengthen its enforcement policies. Secondly, honest businessmen should modify some long-accepted practices at the protection of their intellectual property right.

2.

                                                Knowledge and Diploma

It is generally believed that a high diploma guarantees a promising future. Some people identify high diplomas with profound knowledge and exceptional competence. Companies also tend to emphasize the academic achievement of a job candidate. Like it or not, there does exist a social reality – the higher diplomas one gets, the more popular he becomes.

On the contrary, other people claim that a high diploma doesn’t automatically translate into knowledge. A diploma, in their eyes, is only the acknowledgment of one’s educational experience rather than a guarantee of one’s ability. Therefore, we can never measure the depth of one’s knowledge by the grade of one’s diploma. Besides, many knowledgeable people don’t have a high diploma. Take Bill Gates for example. His dropping out of college cannot deny the fact that he is one of the world’s most learned men.

3.

                                                       Online Games

As a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. A great many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self-discipline are too much indulged in these games so that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents.

However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train the ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science.

From my point of view, online games are a wonderful entertainment if you play them in a reasonable way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once.

4.

                                      My Views on Micro-blog

With the number of micro-bloggers soarin9,micro-blog has become part of our lives and has drawn much attention around the country.

Micro-blog is a double-edged sword. On the one hand,micro-blog plays an important role in upholding justice, advancing social democracy and providing a platform for people to comment about their lives. On the other hand, micro- blogging can also be potentially dangerous as it may give away people’s privacy.

As far as I am concerned.micr0—blog will play all increasingly important role in our Eves.Only when the administration creates a favorable condition for communication and users conform to the rules of the new media.

5.

                                             On Self-reliance

As is vividly depicted in the picture, a boy is complaining to his parents that if he had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, bad grades wouldn’t matter. The picture reflects a serious social problem that nowadays some children are more dependent on their parents. They lack self-reliance.

It is widely acknowledged that self-reliance is indispensable to everyone. For one thing, self-reliance plays a crucial role in the cultivation of creativity. Relying on others means repetition, imitation, and fewer efforts, which may not lead to innovation, an element greatly needed in this era of competition.

In view of the seriousness of the problem, it is high time for children to realize the importance of self-reliance. As for adults, they should encourage their children to confront challenges by themselves.

6.

                                              On Fighting Smog

Recently, smog has become a problem we have to face. There is a growing concern over smog which is believed to threaten people’s health. It is high time that we took some methods to protect ourselves.

People’s views on how to fight smog vary from person to person. Generally speaking, there are three effective ways. First of all, try to reduce the time of outdoor activities, especially when the air quality is not good enough. Secondly, make good use of protective things such as mouth-muffles so that harmful substances would be kept out. Most importantly, protect our environment and cut off the source of smog. Only in this way can we really achieve a long-term success.

From what has been mentioned above, we can come to the conclusion that in order to keep away from smog, we can hide ourselves in a safe area; however, it is much more necessary for us to face the root of the problem bravely and fight against it.

7.

                               The Importance of Compliments

Just as the words Mark Twain even remarked,“I can live for two months on a good compliment.” What he said implies that a compliment is a necessity in our daily life.

As far as I am concerned, compliments are essential to our life for the following three reasons. Firstly, compliments from others boost our confidence and explore our potential. Here is a story to illustrate this point. A child was often scorned by others because he was slow in study. However, his mother never gave him up and always paid him compliments. Little by little, he built up confidence and finally entered a famous university.

Secondly, compliments in our daily life bring harmony and happiness to us. What’s more, the significance of compliments has also been proved by psychological studies, which support that a compliment is to the soul what water is to the body.

In summary, good compliments can help us win others’ trust and improve our life. So be generous to give your whole-hearted compliments to the people around you!

8.

Dear Sir or Madam,

It’s my great honor to have the chance to run for the volunteer for the international conference to be hosted by our university. I’m Zhang Li, a sophomore majoring in English. I am sure that I can be qualified for being a volunteer.

First of all, I specialize in English and my fluent oral English will help me a lot. Besides, I have served as a volunteer for two grand sports games. Consequently, I have accumulated sufficient experience.

More importantly, I am an energetic person full of passion and enthusiasm for voluntary work. If I were elected, I would go to great lengths to participate in the training and make myself more qualified.

Moreover, I would place more importance on team spirit and cooperate with others. To sum up, I would make every effort to finish the mission assigned to me.

Please trust me, and trust your choice. Thank you.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Yours,

                                                                                                                            Zhang Li

9.

                               Certificate Craze on Campus

Nowadays each college student must have a pile of various certificates upon graduation, such as National Computer Rank Examination Certificate and Accounting Qualification Certificate. Many people believe that it is necessary to get these certificates though we may need to spend much time on the examinations.

First of all, the certificates are the proof of our capabilities to some extent. Besides, with these certificates, it is much easier for graduates to be regarded as qualified applicants in job hunting and attract the attention of various employers. Most importantly, college students can acquire extensive knowledge in the process of preparing for the examinations.

For my part, the certificates are just a means to measure college students’ abilities while the knowledge acquired is truly beneficial and powerful.

10.

Recently it has become a common phenomenon for college students to have two maj ors at the same time. In this way, they can get double BA degrees when they graduate fr om the university several years later.

Although it may bring unfavorable consequences, we can be sure to conclude that thi s practice is favorable on the whole. To begin with, most students will become more hard working and efficient in order to finish the learning tasks satisfactorily. Moreover, with t wo degrees at hand after graduation, they will stand a better chance in the job market ful l of fierce competition. In the third place, as for today’s university students, tuition and fe es are becoming more and more expensive. If they can make achievements in study at sc hool and find a satisfactory job afterwards, it will not be a big problem.

Weighing the pros and cons of such a new trend, we can naturally arrive at the conc lusion that it is beneficial and rewarding. This system not only compels students to work hard, but also prepares them for the coming competition.

The Positive and Negative Aspects of Sports
To a Chinese, the task of learning English well is not easy. So I, like many other English learners, have met with difficulties in learning English during the past seven years. But I managed to overcome them and made much progress.
The spelling and meaning of words can be said to be the first difficulty I met as a beginner. But I found our my own way to deal with them. As to spelling, I never copied a new work again and again to remember it, but tried to find its relevance to the sound. In fact, as long as I can read the word out, I can write it out. As to the meaning, I rarely recite its Chinese translation but often put the word into the sentence to learn its meaning. Moreover, if you use a word quite often, its spelling and meaning will be no problem. After all, we are learning English in order to use it.
Grammar and idioms may be another difficulty. But I have also got over it. I have not read lots of grammar books. But I spent much time reading the articles written by native speakers or specialists in English. By doing so, I came to gain “a sense of English language”. I began to gain a feel for which sentences are “good English” and which are not.
Finally, I want to say that overcoming all these difficulties requires perseverance. In the past seven years I spent at least an hour on English each day. I believe this is an important reason why I am able to make progress in learning English.

The Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics logo has a single Chinese character on a traditional red Chinese seal. The English words “Beijing 2008“ are written with a Chinese brush below it. At the bottom of the picture, there are the five rings of Olympic Games. The figure in the logo resembles a runner or dancer and the Chinese character “jing“ which means “capital“.
The image carries the message that today’s China is not only a nation with a long and glorious history, but also one full of modern dynamics. First and foremost, this logo is a journey to the future, the emblem for China moving towards the 2008 Olympic Games. What is more, it is a symbol of the city’s promise to make the Games a success. Accordingly, this emblem represents the heart of an ancient culture embracing the modern world, the spirit of a people moving towards a new destiny.
In my view, first of all, the Olympic Game represents the spirit of sports. Arms flung wide, it invites all people and the world to share in the city’s history, beauty, energy, and its future. In addition, it is a gesture of friendship and hope that the community of nations will unite in peace through sports.
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic Studying Abroad. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below:
1)目前很多中国学生出国留学,
2)出国留学的好处,
3)我的看法。
Nowadays, going abroad for studies is enjoying a striking popularity among adolescents. Importance should be attached to studying abroad.
There are a great many advantages of studying overseas. First and foremost, living and studying abroad offers students a different perspective of the world. On a university campus, international students are likely to encounter their counterparts from various countries and areas and are exposed to diverse ideas and values. What is more, overseas experience is the best opportunity for the real-life use of foreign languages. There is no better opportunity to improve second-language skills than living in the country in which it is spoken.
Generally peaking, it is my view that although going abroad is expensive and perhaps painful, the payoff is worthwhile. In the first place, in addition to knowledge, overseas students can gain precious experiences that those who stay at home will never have. Furthermore, overseas experience, frustrating and painful as it may be, is conducive to the growth of adolescents.
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Internet. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1、 互联网使用的现状,
2、 大学生是否应该使用互联网,人们的看法不同,
3、 我的看法。
In recent years, people are developing an inseparable relationship with Internet. As is known to all, it is convenient for us to click the mouse when surfing on line, either to entertain ourselves or to meet the work’s needs.
On the one hand, no one denies that Internet is currently one of the most useful media in our daily life. As a college student, I get on line every day to exchange information through e-mails with my net friends. But on the other hand, a good many people admit that they are too much addicted to Internet to maintain a regular and wholesome lifestyle.
Thus, it is necessary for us to use Internet in a reasonable way and restrain from overindulgence. After all,Internet is invented to enrich our life, and to improve the efficiency of our work rather than shackle us with a chain.
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic My Views on Examinations. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1)大学都用考试来衡量学生的成绩,
2)考生可能带来的副作用,
3)我对考试的看法。
In most colleges and universities the examination is used as a chief means of deciding whether a student succeeds or fails in mastering a particular subject. Although it does the job quite efficiently, its side effects are also enormous.
To begin with, examinations lower the standards of teaching. Since teachers are often judged by examination results, they are reduced to training their students in exam techniques. No subjects can be taught successfully merely through being approached with intent to take examinations. In addition, the most undesirable effect is that examinations encourage bad study habits. As the examination score is the only criterion for his academic performance, a student is driven to memorize mechanically rather than to think creatively.
In fact, few of us admit that examinations can contribute anything really important to the students’ academic development. If that is the case, why cannot we make a change and devise something more efficient and reliable than examinations?
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic The most unforgettable Teacher I ever Know. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1)我生活中最难忘的老师是……
2)为什么他(或她)令我难以忘怀,
3)结论。
In my life I have met a great many teachers who are really worth recalling. But perhaps the most unforgettable one I ever know is my English teacher.
What frequently brings back memories of my school teacher is his special qualities. First of all, he gave us the greatest gift a teacher can offer—an awakening of a passion for learning. He not only led us to an appreciation of the beauty and perfection of English language and literature, but also aroused our great interest in exploring something deeper in this field. Second, I was attracted by his lively wit. I remember that we students always anticipated his class with great eagerness because his lecture were humorously delivered, never failing to provoke chuckles or loud laughs.
Although it is nearly two years since I attended his last class, he is the talk of our old classmates, and I know part of him has already stayed in my heart.

Directions: You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because your roommate always has friends visiting. Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform you that I wish to move into a new room next semester. I would prefer a single room, as I find the present sharing arrangement inconvenient.
I must explain that the reason for my dissatisfaction is my roommate’s inconsiderate behavior. For one thing, his friends are constantly visiting him; for another, he regularly holds noisy parties. In these circumstances, I find it difficult to concentrate on my studies, and I am falling behind in my assignments.
I am sure you will agree that the only solution is for me to move into a room of my own. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could find a single room for me, preferably not in the same building but as near to the college campus as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming

Practice MakesPerfect
“Practice makes perfect”means that if you do an activity regularly, you will become good at it.Anyone who has had sufficient practice in doing a particular job may perform better and more quickly than those with little practic.
Take English learning for example. When we learn English, we have to learn grammar, words and phrases. It is not so difficult for us to understand and remember the rules, But when we speak or write with the words and rules in mind, we find it difficult to express it in English smoothly or corredtly. On the contrary, those who keep on practising listening, speaking, reading and writing English can communicate in English at ease and fluently. For anther exemple, a skilled driver may talk with others while driving. Both learning and driving require plenty of practice for the mastery of skills.
Evidently, practice is important. If you want to improve your study and work, you should remember that: Well begun is half done;actions speak louder than words; strike while the iron is hot; practice with zeal and interast, practice with persistence and patience, practice with positive attitude and self-confidence.
Last but not least , practice makes perfect.and miracls!
What Is Happiness?
What is happiness? Perhaps different people have different views on happiness.
Some people think that material satisfaction would bring happiness. But in fact they overlooked the fact that true happiness comes from the realization of your career/cause you persue which contributes the success of others as well as your own. Some peopole try every means to make money at the expense of others’ interest . These people harm others to benefit themselves,They think the greater sum of money they make, the happier they will be. On the contrary, some people think that spiritual satisfaction is the greatest happiness. They do everything for the people. They live, work, and sacrifice their lives for the people.
In my opinion, I believe, one’s value lies in the value of serving the people, the country and the whole societyI am sure those who make contributions, big or small, to our country will be regarded as the happiest people,They should be recognized and respected. The point is what you can do,but not how people look on you.It is how much you contribute ,not how much you gain,I think this is the true meaing of life that everyone of us should have.
